Matthew Payeur is a 1996 graduate of Hallmark Institute of
Photography and resides in Vermont. Matthew tries to tell a story
with every photograph, as well as capturing the spirit of the
subject, tying in composition, lighting and subject matter to
elevate a photograph into an artistic piece. He works full time as
an Optician, and this affords him the ability to photograph only
the things he chooses and not get bogged down with the financial
side of photography. Many of Matthew's images start out as
ideas that he works out in his head during his hour long
commute to work. His models range from friends and family
members, to random people he has met or simply sees in their
own environment. When no one else is available he often uses
himself and a timer. His work is almost always black & white
and is primarily pure, though he has started to dabble a bit in the
evil impure digital waters and must admit.... some of it is pretty
fun and the results can be very effective.

A good photograph is one
that communicates a fact,
touches the heart, leaves
the viewer a changed
person for having seen it.
It is, in a word, effective.
